A lot of newer vehicles have a factory inverter, but not all of them. This unit adds two AC outlets and 4 USB ports to your car without a factory inverter or to add capabilities to a car already equipped. We have an inverter in our car but not in our pickup truck, so we needed this device for our truck.
This unit gives you plenty of USB ports for charging phones and tablets, powering dash cams and GPS units, etc. In addition, it supplies 120VAC house power for using your kids' Playstations and X-Boxes in the back seat during long trips. Please understand that this unit is not big enough for running power tools but it will charge cordless tools just fine.
It has a circuit-cooling fan to keep the unit cooled. For this reason, it would not be wise to operate the unit while in the glove box or under the seat, where there would be insufficient air circulation.
For twenty bucks, this is a device everyone can afford and it will come in very handy to keep peace in the car on trips.
