It's a good, actually great, camera. This UltraHD version is the upgrade to the ProHD version and incorporates 2 significant changes:

1.) an increase in resolution to 3MP @ 20fps; and
2.) dual band capabilities.

Other than that, the Shield UltraHD carries over the popular features from the Shield ProHd without change. It has a super wide 140° angle viewing, convenient storage options, digital zoom and easy mobile set up. It has fantastic audio quality with the cool, two-way talk that enables you to speak through the camera from your phone so you can freak out whoever's at home. The night vision recording up to 32' feature is a must have. However, the key selling point for me with both of AmCrest's new Indoor WIFI IP Cameras this year (this being one of them... the dome shaped UltraHD 2K being the other) is that they are now dual band capable, meaning the ability to operate on either 2.4 GHz bandwidth or 5 GHz bandwidth.

While not exactly clear to me, AmCrest offers this Shield UltraHD 2K camera for a lesser price than the dome shaped UltraHD 2K camera. Released around the same time, both cameras are identical except for the price and four minor points:

1.) Size and
2.) Shape. Which do you prefer in your living room? A dome shape or a sheild?
3.) Viewing angle. The Shield does not have pan/tilt like the UltraHD. Instead, the Shield has a fixed, super wide 140° viewing angle that beats most indoor cameras available and is one less moving part to worry about down the road;
4.) Mounting. The Shield is easier to mount with a thinner/lighter shape to work with and a cool, optional magnetic base; and
5.) Price. The Shield UltraHD 2K costs $30 less than the domed UltraHD 2K version (based on AMZ prices, 07/12/17).

Those are the differences. Other than that, the many features which I've grown accustomed to and like very much about the AmCrest camera, are exactly the same regardless of model.

So, it's a no brainer, right? Go for the lesser priced Shield wIth differences that I prefer? Nope. Decided to go with the dome shaped UltraHD 2k since we already had the dome shaped ProHD, our first AmCrest camera. But....if we didn't already have the dome, I might have gone with the Shield series. It would have been the practical thing to do.

Either way you can't go wrong with these cameras. I've been happy with mine since being introduced to AmCrest a year ago. It was a good decision to upgrade to the higher resolution and dual band mode. Overall, AmCrest makes good, well made cameras, that function well and that I feel comfortable using.
