New Smart Life HDMI To VGA Adapter Converter

Onto my continued quest to get what I need to turn my laptop into a ‘desktop’ I got a few HDMI to VGA converters since all the monitors that I have are all VGA and I only have one VGA port on the laptop. These I hope would do the trick.  I ordered two different kinds to try (the other will be in another review).

So, this adaptor was the cheaper one I ordered and was only $8 and the first thing I noticed it didn’t seem very protected. It was shipped in a padded envelope (which is fine), but the adaptor was only in a small flimsy baggie.  I would have liked to at least have it come in a small box to protect it better. In addition to the packaging, the adaptor itself did also feel a little ‘cheap’ with the plastic casing, but I did like that it included the plastic cover for the HDMI plug.

Either way, the adaptor was able to be plugged into into my laptop and the VGA cable was fine. I did have to tweak my videos settings since at first when I turned the monitor on I was greeted with “Input Not Supported” – which was a odd error that I had not seen before.

I did find that this was an easy fix (not sure if this is something that the adaptor caused, or if it was just something within Windows since this was an older monitor).  The refresh rate was set by default at 59Hz and moving it up to 60Hz fixed the issue and the monitor displayed just fine after that.

So aside from the minor annoyance, the adaptor does it’s job at converting my HDMI slot into VGA so I can plug up my older monitors and extend the display. For the price, I can’t really complain.  It’s a nice cheap solution to be able to hook up your old VGA monitor with a HDMI port.

Gets a thumbs up from me!
